Module Registration
As a student of Leipzig University, you have to register for modules and courses at the start of each semester. This page explains which registration systems and procedures there are, which deadlines you need to meet, and where to get support.
Students: Students of the study course M. Sc. Meteorology
Registration period: Tuesday 19 March 2024 (12:00 noon) - Monday 25 March 2024 (5:00 pm)

According to the examination regulations, module deristrations are possible up to 4 weeks before the end of the lecture period until 07 June 2024 at 23:59 directly in TOOL.
- When you register for a module, you are also automatically registered for the module examination.
- As a rule, it is possible to deregister from a module, and thus also from the module examination, no later than four weeks before the end of the lecture period. You do this in TOOL or by notifying the responsible examination office in writing.
- If you deregister before the deadline, all examinations already completed in the module will be deemed not to have been completed.
- After this point, it is only possible to withdraw from examinations for exceptional reasons. The withdrawal must be declared in writing and also approved in writing by the examination board (please refer to your examination regulations for more details).

Registration for the modules takes place directly in the students office of the faculty for Mathematics and Computer Science.
Other elective areas
- All modules offered by Leipzig University can be taken for the elective area, provided that the module supervisor accepts students from the degree programme.
- For information on enrolment, please contact the study office.
- Details of current modules and courses can also be found in the course catalogue.
- Also courses of the language center of the university can also be used, if the study and examination regulation allows.
- SQ courses can be done starting from the first semester.
- To register for modules, you will be required to use the TOOL system.
- Due to the limited capacity of the SQ courses, a special enrolment procedure is used.
Every student has the opportunity to take modules from the range offered by the Language Center during their studies. It is irrelevant whether the module is a regular part of the curriculum in the bachelor’s and master’s programmes or whether the student chooses to acquire the language skills additionally. Your academic adviser for your core subject can tell you whether a module can count towards your elective area or SQ credits.

Examination
- End of the semester the courses close with their examination. Here you will find when and where your examination will take place.
- At our faculty, the student office organizes all examinations (schedule, registration, re-examination, etc.)

Examination plan
When you register for a module at our faculty, you automatically register for the exam and the first re-take exam for organisational reasons.
If you have met the admission requirements for the exams and do not deregister from the module and exams in due time, the first exam date in the semester is binding. You can deregister from a module and the exams in AlmaWeb no later than four weeks before the end of the lecture period. After that, you can only withdraw from an exam for an important reason. To do this, you must submit an application to the examination board and receive a written approval from them.
If you do not appear for an exam without an important reason, the exam will be considered as failed.
- You can repeat a failed exam within one year after the first examination attempt. As a rule, this takes place in the next regular examination period, when the module is offered again after one year. Please note that you are automatically registered for the first re-take exam.
- Different from this, many lecturers already offer a re-take exam in the same semester for students who have not passed the regular exam. You can decide whether you want to take this opportunity up to the day of the exam. You do not have to register for or de-register for this exam.
- If you have to sit a second re-take exam, please submit an application to the examination board responsible for your subject. If they agree to your application, you must repeat the exam at the next possible examination date.
- Important: If you have to sit a second re-take exam this semester and have not yet applied for it, please do this immediately. Without this application, you cannot sit the exams. Please also note that you have to sit the re-take exam within one year.
- If you also fail the second re-take exam, the module is considered as failed. You can replace failed compulsory elective or elective modules by passing another compulsory elective or elective module. A failed compulsory module leads to the termination of your studies.

Hints for Applications to the Examination Board
Please submit your application to the examination board responsible for your subject timely before the meetings in the study office. The following information must not be missing:
- Surname, first name
- Address
- Matriculation number
- Course of study
- Semester and und year of enrolment
- University email address
For legal reasons, all applications must be signed.

In Case of illness
Are you ill and unable to sit an exam? Please submit the form certificate of incapacity for work together with the original certificate of incapacity for work from your doctor to the study office immediately. Both must be handed in within three days. In the case of a second re-take exam, you will need an attestation from a public health officer. You can hand in the documents in the study office, drop them in the letter box of the study office or send them by post.
Please also briefly inform the examiner or the person responsible for the module.
