In his research, doctoral candidate Jonas Naumann from the "Biotechnology and Biomedicine" working group headed by Professor Zink is investigating the physics of the premature lung and why mechanical ventilation can harm premature babies.

Jonas Naumann presents his research findings during the 68th Annual Meeting of the Biophysical Society from 10 to 14 February 2024 in Philadelphia, USA, where he will receive a Travel Award. The Biophysical Society is now reporting on his research in a press release. His studies show that the lungs of premature babies become stiffer under stress than the lungs of adults. This disrupts the function of transporters that are important for the removal of water from the lungs after birth. You can read the full text on the website of the Biophysical Society.
