In our group we study long-range interactions between gas-phase atoms.

In order to observe and study long-range interactions between atoms in the gas phase, we cool atomic gases down to temperatures of a few microkelvin using the techniques of laser cooling. With precisely controlled laser pulses we excite the atoms into high-lying electronic states, so called Rydberg states. In these states, the atoms interact very strongly with each other and with their environment, especially with electric fields.

We explore exotic molecular binding mechanisms arising from these strong interactions and complex many-body dynamics of systems out of equilibrium.

Our group organizes regularly the following lectures:

Summer term:

  • Bachelor of Physics: Experimental physics 4 - Structure of matter

Winter term:

  • Bachelor/Master: Elective module quantum matter
  • Master: Advances seminar special topics in solid state physics - quantum optics

Up-to-date informations are available from the course catalogue .

Module taught in the past:

  • Lehramt: EP5 – Molekül- und Festkörperphysik I (SS 21)
  • Lehramt: EP6 – Molekül- und Festkörperphysik II (WS 20)
